RC PitStop EP25 – Tower Hobbies CUTBACK First Mods
This is just a quick episode showing you some of the mods I’m doing to the Cutback to get more speed out of it and to hopefully stop some of that nosediving that it has. A smaller spur gear should wake it up a bit and if motor temps are OK, then I’ll try a 17T pinion I have here and see if it can take it without any overheating issues.
Relocating the ESC to the rear of the truck may or may not make any difference, but hey, it’s worth a try.
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video.

The Cutback isn’t a very good truck out of the box, but can we make it
better without spending big bucks on upgrades?
Here’s the first mods I’ll be doing to the truck, so let’s hope these have
a positive affect and the truck becomes more enjoyable to drive.
Thanks for watching.
The nose diving is because the truck is under sprung in the rear. It has
absolutely nothing to do with the weight distribution.
It does seem weird that the original design has so much of the weight up
near the front of the chassis, or am i crazy? Throw that ESS-ONE in the
rear… add some weight and make the truck at least sound cool… do they
have a sound you can program that resembles a truck nose diving straight
into the ground with some kind of explosion effect? lol.
3$ to ship!?!?!?!??!??!?? OMG where is the warehouse man??? I’m in Canada
and shipping things from the US is wayyyyyyy more expensive than 3$!
Never mind the quality of this truck out of the box. Very few rc’s are
great out of the box. The real story here is the fact that you are trying
to make it a fun, usable, reliable RC without breaking the bank. Maybe an
RC that your kids can learn on? I really admire your ingenuity and
craftsmanship, especially in regards to the neat, efficient wiring. Keep up
the great work, I can’t wait to see more of this project.
How about adding lead weights, used in rc planes? That might help relocate
so of the forward weight bias.

I agree however, that a lot of this truck missed quality control. The
question remains, can it be saved?
the quick look at the center diff looks to be nearly identical design to
the hobbytown usa house brand Helion’s (rebadged and new chassis tub of an
ansman roayal flash) entire 4wd 1/10 scale lineup, all of which have
garbage diffs. seeing that alone dooms any future the truck might have, are
the front and rear diffs the same design?
That motor looks like my Arrma BLX 3600kv 4 pole . I’m using it with 15/54
gearing in my slash 4×4. It doesn’t get hot running on 3s. I see a lot of
these 4×4 trucks running these bigger 2250kv or 2500 kv motors like in 1/8
buggies. Do you think the cut back needs a 550 motor
What blue screwdriver do you use? And where could I possibly get one?
All the rookies said it’s awesome. Rc sailors..etc..
You should really consider suspension tuning to fix your nose dive problem
nice
Seems like that truck is a real piece of trash. Thanks for the great videos
Very small pinion there. I’m sure the changes you made will help. Higher
overall wheel speed will assist in keeping the front end up as well. Great
vid. Some people might just bash on the truck, but you do what’s needed to
fix the issues.
You should take a look at the madgear trucks from nitro rcx
I wonder if the nose diving isn’t caused by the body. Also every sct I have
owned needed ballast weight added to make them jump nice. My 22sct needed
weights my sc10 2 and 4 wheel drive did as well.
Hi, at first, I really like your videos and would like to ask you if you
may can do a review on the German ansmann virus 4.0 bl.
I really would like to see a professional review on this buggy.
I’m waiting for v2
To you which is the best budget truck?
Nice
I am totally going to get one these trucks now!
