I have a Nitro car and a monster truck and they have been NOTHING but work
and tuning. My tinkering to having fun was probably 80:20. I’m thinking
of getting back into the hobby and getting an electric truck.
This is so one sided, you cant just take 2 of the same cars and say oh this
one is faster, there ARE nitro engines that will go faster, and when it
comes to runtime sure you can get 45 min out of a lipo but you can keep
topping up fuel in your nitro and easily get a couple hours of fun out of
it.
He compared a VXL brushless stampede against a 1.5 nitro how stupid
considering the VXL cost a lot more and especially with the brushless.
Compare it to a 3.3 motor and it will beat it on speed and costs
I just got back in the game after being out since 89-90! Back in those days
nitro was king! Battery technology & electric motors are light-years ahead
of the 80’s! I had a Tamiya King cab! Came with a 540 motor. Running the
7.2 battery packs! I upgraded my motor in a week of having the 540. I
dropped in a Trinity Godzilla 12 turn! Lol had to beef up whole drive
train! Lol.long story short I just got a inferno mp9 tki3!
The way i look at it is simple.
Nitro = 30% driving / 70% fixing
Electric = 70% driving / 30% fixing
Nothing wrong with either. Some like being a mechanic more than bashing
around. Nothing wrong with that. I rather be out bashing around than fixing
my RC.
As for speed and power, I think there is no argument here. I have both and
nitro is not even close to brushless here. The power you get from brushless
when you pin the remote is just mind boggling. You cant even control the
damn truck if you tried. Nitro you are happy to be able to wheelie…
But you can keep topping up a nitro and run for 24 hours a day 7 days a
week 52 weeks a year!…instead of 5-around 30 mins then having to wait
about 16 hours for the battery to charge befor you can run again
I like both. I started with electric then I tried out nitro. I love the
smell of nitro trucks and how loud they are. I have a savage X 4..6 and
that truck runs pretty quick for a big truck. But I’m not a fan of the
maintenance on the nitro trucks. I really don’t have much time to fix them.
Thankfully my local rc store takes care of that stuff for me. Yeah it cost
me money, but at least I know its getting done correctly. I do want to try
that XO1 car though. hitting 100mph would be awesome in an rc truck. lol I
raced my buddies electric truck. He took me off the line no problem, but
once I hit that 2nd gear, it was game over. lol
Nitro is has a far higher “fun” quotient for sure. It’s loud and you can
hear the engine struggling and blasting your vehicle around. Electric, we
hear a cute whine. Not for me.
I’m a motorhead since I was a kid so I guess it translates over to RC’s for
me. Electric is fine for many apparently, but not for us true motorheads
who absolutely adore tinkering and maintaining our vehicles. Full size or
1/10th scale alike. And Lipo batteries scare me. I heard many people store
them in fireproof safes. Myth? Perhaps, but I’d rather not worry about it.

as a nitro guy I’m leaning more to electric and the reason is cost. a
battery this days can last long and are getting cheaper. also nitro fuel
its getting more expensive. 25 dollars for a small pint. no thank you i
quite because of it. spend 20 or 30 dollars one time and you have a battery
that can last you years.

interested in the hobby. It is true that electric cars can be faster than
nitro, but that is if they are running a brushless motor setup with a
powerful battery. The speed of a nitro car depends on the nitro methane
content in the fuel and the tune on the engine. Fully stock, a nitro car
will be faster than an electric in most cases, but if you shell out the 30
bucks for a brushless motor, 60 bucks for a brushless esc, and 50 bucks for
higher voltage and higher capacity batteries, you can beat a nitro car in a
drag race. Truly, I believe that electric cars are cheaper than nitro cars
because you do not have to buy fuel for them, but nitro is cheaper in
reality because nitro cars are typically made of higher quality parts in
order to withstand the heat created by the engine while electrics usually
sport a plastic chassis with lower quality parts. There are pros and cons
for both electric and nitro. If you live in a neighborhood where nitro
hobby craft are banned, electric would be best suited for you. If you have
no time on your hands and only want to play with the car and don’t want to
maintain it, electric is best for you. Nitro is a more hands on approach
and involves more know how, but is more interesting and educational than
electric. There are lots of people who love the smell of nitro and the
smoke coming from the exhaust, but there are also people who like the ease
of use of electric. Truly, nitro is not very hard at all to maintain. Keep
the carb and the combustion chamber lubricated and oil your clutch bearings
and that is really all that you have to do. Nitro is better than electric
in many ways, but electric also can hold its ground against nitro. Amateurs
will most likely favor electric for its ease of use, but more experienced
people will go for nitro because they have the time and will to dedicate

Electrics are straight up turn it on and go. They are better if you just
want an RC vehicle to goof around with because the play time is generally
more than the maintenance. You don’t have to spend all the time trying to
get the engine to start or troubleshooting glow plug, carburetor,
compression. It all comes down to how much of a gear head you are. I’d
choose nitro first, then play with an electric as a backup if my nitro is
broken, but I’d always use the nitro if it works.
Nitro cars require attention & regular work on eg: cleaning and changing
some of the parts etc over its life… Electric cars are for pussy’s…
doesn’t require much maintenance besides changing the batteries…
I think its funny how he has a stock nitro compared to a 6 cell electric
which cost almost if not 100 and is a big upgrade compared to stock
batteries
great video, as i’ve got a slow charger at the moment, it takes hours/days
charging the batteries up and i’ll see what my new chargers are like when i
receive them from ebay and my range isn’t so good either and if i could
have any kind of monster truck, i’d go for The Clodbuster, but in nitro and
a lot bigger, i have Tamiya as electric at the moment and they’re good and
if they could make inner tubes to put inside the tyres and pump them up, i
recon they’d be more grip instead of drifting off and i like 4wd
I enjoy blasting my Nitro car, thing is, it may not add direct cost to the
electric car, but doesn’t it cost to charge up your battery? over time that
adds up too.

Its not as easy as plug in run and toss it on a shelf. They get just as
dirty and require just as much time. an electric does not need nitro to
run. a nitro still needs a receiver pack and electric servo to run your
throttle. To me nitro is a dieing breed. Mostly run by huge egos and
neanderthal bone heads. Granted not all nitro guys are that way…but most.

time running….really? i find that to be hard to believe. ive never met
anyone that would rather spend more time working on a car then driving it .

Ive owned plenty of nitro cars in the past. Traxxas T-maxx, Traxxas 4-tec,
Losi mosnter trucks and a few others. When I bought my first electric, the
Traxxas E-Revo brushless and a Traxxas X01…I was done with nitro FOREVER.
Sure I had to spend initial money on a good 4 port charger with seperate
power supply and expensive batteries up front, but it eventually pays for
itself after a few months when you dont have to keep spending $30 for a
gallon of nitro all the time. Electric is cleaner, no maintenance, quieter
and FASTER than nitro. plus im getting like 25 to 30 minute run times on a
fully charged pack. So for me personally electric is better and I will
never go back to nitro. Only rc car that i have which still uses fuel is my
HPI baja 5T which I will NEVER get rid of. LOL
I have to say this is a good video for people who want to start with rc
cars. Especially with the pros and cons about what type of vehicle some one
would buy. My preference goes out to nitro, I loveto spend hours working on
it. I’m very intrigued by the fact that nitro cars have theses small

Of course it matters on what YOU want to do,and if I where to have one,from
the sounds of it,electric would be my choice.
if I have been in the remote control for four years, can i go to nitro

i pick nitro over electric because i do not know much about how the
electric stuff works but i have alot of nitro knowledge
